Once in a while wehear a story so incredible that we cannot believe it occurred outside of amovie. Sometimes it can change the way we look at the world, even if only for ashort time. Men’s Hockey Disappoints, Ties and Loses to Clarkson

The Saints men’s hockey team lost some of their momentum last weekend, tying Clarkson 3-3 at Appleton Arena on Friday night and losing 3-1 the next night in Potsdam.
  St. Lawrence entered the weekend without one of their most productive forwards, as senior Casey Parenteau suffered an injury in the game against Colgate that has likely ruled him out for the season.

New Abroad Program in Thailand

St. Lawrence has just added a new study abroad program in Chiang Mai, Thailand.  The program has been established through Payap University and will be based on an American calendar and taught in English by University doctors and professors. This program is geared towards majors and those interested in: Asian studies, religious studies, globalization, democratization, fine arts, human rights, migration, and economic development.

On April 27, 1974, Donald Edwards was driving through downtown on his way home when he saw a young man who was pinned with half his body out of a vehicle.

Shortly before, the young man’s vehicle had veered off the road and struck a tree. Edwards stopped, jumped out of his car and tried to relieve the pressure on the young man’s back.

In the process, Edwards wrenched his own back and today is in constant pain from the injury.

Mary Keenan wiped away tears that relentlessly slid down her rouge cheeks as she recalled the elderly man from Clinton County, NY, who called her house one afternoon and spoke with her college-age son. “He asked my son if his mother was Mary Keenan from the USDA Rural Development office. When my son said, ‘Yes,’ the man said, ‘I want you to know that your mother is the only person who gave me a chance and helped me.’” Keenan added with a fresh set of tears, “My son just replied, ‘Yep, that’s my mom.’”

SLU Students Help in Local Community

On a recent Wednesday, Ben Augliano ‘09 was nervous before his first meeting with his SLU Buddy. Augliano imagined his buddy, a grade school student, walking into the room, seeing this 6’6” man standing over him and being scared.

But when the towering Augliano arrived at the classroom at F.S. Banford Elementary School in Canton and introduced himself, his new young friend, Jeremy, was delighted.
