Regarding Education in Africa

Democracy, in my opinion, is the holding of free and fair elections, the accountability of political leaders to the nation-state -not to one ethnic group or a region - and the maintenance of rule of law.

Center Right

This was an amazing election. It was absolutely stunning. Obama ran a brilliant campaign that raised over 650 million dollars and he out-campaigned McCain. Did McCain stand a chance? It was an uphill battle from the beginning and the financial crisis made things even harder for McCain to win. We all know the media didn’t help, according to Rasmussen, 51% of American said that the reporters favored Obama and 7% thought that reporters favored McCain. Most Americans associated the financial crisis with the republican president. So what are republicans to do now? I believe that if they go back to conservative beliefs then they will once again take control. This is a center right country that voted for the most liberal senator in the United States Senate for a few reasons.

If you have had the opportunity to step out into the St. Lawrence County community since you have been here, you may have been surprised to have found significant needs imbedded in the beautifully quaint area. And because of these needs, we as St. Lawrence University students engage in volunteer and service opportunities through Community Based Learning (CBL) classes, SLU clubs and organizations, and independently on our own time. In order to create and sustain such partnerships between St. Lawrence University and local agencies that require volunteer assistance, Community Mentors are hired by and volunteer through the Center for Civic Engagement and Leadership.

A Disappointing Debate

By:
Anonymous 2011

After having months of general election excitement, I can say I was quite pleased with the prospect of an election happening on our campus. I was excited for less politics in exchange for the general well-being of our campus with respect to issues. Sustainability. Social life. Academics. With two candidates standing before me in the “debate” open to the public last night, I was ready for excellence.

I do not think I could have been more disappointed.

Presidential Forum

By:
Tim McCormick

On Tuesday evening, 10/28, ODK and the SLU Government Department hosted a forum on Presidential leadership, with student participants advocating for both campaigns. To be honest, I was disappointed with how the event turned out. For the most part, the panel turned into a negative campaigning showdown rather than a positive showcase on political leadership, and policy specifics were butchered by both sides.

Which Candidate Will Go Green?

By:
SLU for Obama

It is now the final days before the 2008 election; the candidates are in their final stretch.  In this election the candidates have focused heavily on the economy, foreign policy and health care.  However, issues of the environment and energy are crucial when looking towards the future.  So, in light of this, here's what the candidates think...

Dear Readers,
We’ve had a few busy weeks recently at The Hill News. We’ve covered some very important stories from alcohol abuse, to parties at the Townhouses, Adderall abuse, the economic crisis, and sexual assault. Some people don’t think we should be printing such negative stories in the school paper. What does that say to the President, the Trustees, the Faculty and Staff about their students? And then what about prospective students? We must be giving admissions a tough time.

Whose ‘War’ Do You See?

As the presidential season looms upon us, your choice for the next president might seem to be between Pepsi and Coca-Cola, yet as seen with the facts below, they are more like green tea vs. coffee, but you can be the judge of that.
